They'd like nothing better than to bounce him from the department. The only problem is, Frost's the one D.I. who, by hook or by crook, always seems to find a way to get the job done."

Background: Detective Inspector Jack Frost is a copper with Denton Division which is about 70 miles from London near Oxfordshire. The series starts out with Frost returning from leave after the death of his wife from cancer. Many people tip-toe around Frost because of this and he uses this to his advantage- getting away with things he normally wouldn’t have. The reality is that Frost was going to divorce his wife just before she was diagnosed with cancer and that he stayed with her during it to help her. The day after day routine of going to the cancer ward at the hospital took its toil on Frost leading him further down a path of alcoholism and depression. Feeling as though he was a disappointment to his wife (she wanted him to be a great and powerful police officer) and not knowing what to do with himself, Frost stumbles in on an armed robbery one day and decides to jump into it, not caring if he lived or died. He was shot in the face for his troubles but managed to save the lives of all the people in the place being robbed. He survived the gun shot and was awarded the George Cross. This award, while he never likes to talk about it, has given him security as the Chief Constable’s blue-eyed boy so that he can not be fired or forced into retirement by others. Frost likes being a pain and has no qualms about taking on the most disgusting cases.

Personality: Frost is rude, crude, disorganized, and has a distinct hatred for authority. He has little desire to rise above what he is now and frankly couldn’t care less what people think of him. He hates paperwork, is known to fudge numbers, likes to pass off his work on others, has no social life and figures no one else does either, and is, overall, an unpleasant person to work for. On the upside- if you don’t have to work for him but work with him Frost is a delightful person. He is able to make people laugh and his disregard for rules makes him a favorite at parties. He loves to find ways to make work fun and loves disgusting and morbid humor. Frost while at work is everyone’s friend so long as you don’t hang around long enough to be drafted into helping him with his paperwork. At home, Frost is actually a lonely man who lives on Chinese food and rarely washes his work clothes. While he seems to suffer from depression there is one thing no one can deny- Frost is an excellent police officer… when you can get him to follow procedure.
